The 2008 ARG Challenge will take place in the historic and beautiful town of Bastrop Texas, located 30 miles southeast of Austin. Racers will experience challenges on the Colorado River and in the Lost Pines, a terrain unique to this part of Texas.

Packet pick up, check in, transition area and boat drop open 6:00am to 7:30am

Pre Race Meeting:

 

8:00am at Lost Pines Recreational Trails (Tahitian Village). Vans will take racers to the start at Fisherman's Park at approx. 8:30am. Race will start at 9:00am.

Transition Area/Race Finish:

 

Lost Pines Recreational Trails at Tahitian Village in Bastrop. Please note that this is a remote area with no running water or bathrooms. Port-a-cans will be provided. There is no shelter and shade is very limited. Pop ups are allowed in TA, coolers and chairs are encouraged. Directions: From Hwy 71 in Bastrop, take Tahitian Drive all the way down to T intersection with Riverside Drive. Turn right on Riverside Drive. The paved road will turn into a dirt road. The transition area will be on your left. Check in will open at 6am. NOTE: Please park on Riverside Drive and walk into transition area. There will be a pink survey flag in the TA with your team number on it to designate your area where you may set up your transition and bikes. Boats should be dropped at Fisherman's Park on the morning of the race BEFORE you come to check in at Tahitian Village.

Boat Drop:

 

Saturday,  June 28, 2008  6:00 am to 7:30 am Fisherman's Park boat ramp, Bastrop.  Boat drop will be manned by race personnel.  After boat drop, racers will proceed to check in/transition, located at Lost Pines Recreational Trails in Tahitian Village .  After the pre-race meeting, racers will be bused back to the boat drop area for the start of the race. Rental boats will be delivered to boat drop by Rising Phoenix.

Entry Fees:

 

Early on-line or mail in registration until JUNE 1st midnight.
$60 per person ($120 per team) Coolmax women's shirts provided to teams that sign up by June 1st ONLY.

Regular on-line or mail in registration May 2nd to midnight June 12th. $70 per person ($140 per team) Women's cut T-shirts for all entries that sign up after June 1st and before June 12th.

Late registration after June 12th by call in reservation only. 512-586-5182. Unfortunately T-shirts and goodie bags cannot be guaranteed
for late entries since they must be ordered in advance. There are a few extra team slots open for last minute registration on a first come, first serve basis. You must call to guarantee registration. Sorry, no race day registration due to the limited number of maps available. Please note race director will be unavailable 6/14-6/18 and will return calls/emails on 6/19. Thanks.

 

  Racers will be required to carry their own hydration system, there will be NO WATER STOPS on the course.

Racer Assistance:

 

No support allowed outside of transition area.

Course Description:

 

4-6 mile navigation trek
Racers will receive waterproof 1:24 maps with pre-marked check points. No plotting is necessary. Using a compass and provided map, racers will navigate to check points to punch passports.  

There will be a navigation refresher at 7:30am.

8-12 mile mountain bike
Mountain biking will consist of hilly double track, jeep roads and paved roads. Mountain bikes required. Helmets must be worn on bikes at all times.

6 mile paddle
Paddling will take place on class 1 easy flowing river on the Colorado River. Teams must supply their own boats, PFDs and paddles. Boats may be rented from Rising Phoenix Adventures and will be delivered and picked up at race site.

3-6 hour race with a 6 hour cut off time.

Race Overview:

 

Participants should be prepared to cover the distances as described above. This is a real adventure race and will be physically challenging for some. The event takes place rain or shine and bad weather only adds to the adventure. Race director may make course changes in the event of severe weather. 

Team challenges
To add fun and excitement to the race, teams may face challenges during the course of the event that will require them to test their teamwork skills. Specific details of mystery events will be kept secret until race day.
